Massage Therapy

“The purpose of massage therapy is to prevent, develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function or relieve pain.” (Massage Therapy Act, 1991).

Massage therapy can help to decrease muscle tension in the body, and increase relaxation. It can also be used to treat different conditions such as:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Stress
  • Arthritis
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Sciatica
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Sports injuries

To practice massage therapy in Ontario, all therapists must be registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. This ensures that all Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are knowledgeable in their field, and are kept to a high standard to practice in the province.
